North America semiconductor equipment industry posts book-to-bill ratio of 0.94 in September, says SEMI

Press release; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 21 October 2014]

North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted US$1.17 billion in orders worldwide in September 2014 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.94, according to SEMI. A book-to-bill of 0.94 meant that US$94 worth of orders were received for every US$100 of product billed for the month.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in September 2014 was 12.9% lower than the final August 2014 level of US$1.35 billion, and was 18.1% higher than the September 2013 order level of US$992.8 million.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in September 2014 was US$1.25 billion. The billings figure was 3.3% lower than the final August 2014 level of US $1.29 billion, and was 22.5% higher than the September 2013 billings level of US$1.02 billion.

"Following 11 months of above parity book-to-bill ratios, the three-month average ratio declined in September," said Denny McGuirk, president and CEO of SEMI. "While order activity moderated, equipment spending this year is expected to be robust and remain on pace for double-digit year-over-year growth."
