911恐襲遺禍深　逾2500救援者患癌

美國紐約911恐怖襲擊造成近3000人喪生，但禍患不止於此，超過2,500名當年參與搜救工作的救援人員疑似因此患上癌症。

英國《每日鏡報》報導，世貿中心最新數據顯示，2,518名在911恐襲時最先趕往現場的救援人員，包括警察、消防員和醫護人員確診患上癌症，較上一年的患病人數暴增一倍。
 
截至今年6月，「911受害者賠償基金」已處理了1,145宗癌症索償，當中881人情況嚴重已獲賠償，有115名人士分別獲賠償40萬美元（約1200萬台幣）至410萬美元（約1.2萬台幣）不等。「911受害者賠償基金」未能評估有多少救援人員因癌病身亡。（國際中心╱綜合外電報導）
