Rory McIlroy依舊屹立不搖，第三輪繳出68桿（-4），總桿數200桿（-16），以領先者地位進入最後一輪，離生涯第三座四大賽冠軍只有一步之遙。

連三輪穩坐榜首，McIlroy在爭冠絕佳位置，還有刷新紀錄的機會：Greg Norman在1993年創下最低總桿數紀錄267桿。

另外還有此役與他同時開球的Tiger Woods，傷癒復出的前球王，2000年在英國公開賽寫下19個Under，也有機會在最後一輪一併打破。

目前暫居第二的Rickie Fowler，第十洞起連抓3鳥，一度與McIlroy平起平坐，但後面吞下3個柏忌，加上McIlroy打下2隻老鷹而喪失威脅性，此輪打出68桿，總桿數206桿。

Fowler賽後表示：「如果我能保持開局那般的狀態，或許可以給他一點威脅，因為他現在肯定是掌控著比賽的局面。」

「我從頭到尾都沒感到驚慌失措。」McIlroy指出，也沒有不舒服的感覺，「我知道有些洞機會來了可以利用，就設法抓下小鳥。」

帶著巨大的優勢爭冠，McIlroy談到：「你真的不能去想別人打得如何，得關注自己，想想如何控制自己的情緒，盡量維持注你現在擁有的，並做好你應該做的事情。」
