美國《紐約每日新聞》報導，菲律賓政府正式起訴一名美國海軍陸戰隊員，指他涉嫌將一名變性人的頭塞入馬桶，令她淹死。

案情指，美國19歲海軍陸戰隊員彭伯頓（Joseph Scott Pemberton），在馬尼拉西北部奧隆阿波市一間飯店內，將變性人勞德（Jennifer Laude）的頭塞入馬桶，將她浸死。

勞德本是男兒身，後來變性當女人，她的屍體10月被人發現，檢查官形容案件殘酷，等同謀殺。不過，彭伯頓的拘留權至今仍有爭議，他目前仍屬由美軍看管，但外圍會有菲律賓軍人把守。（國際中心／綜合外電報導）
