12月13日是首個大陸南京大屠殺死難者國家公祭日，也是大陸全國人大常委會以立法形式確定南京大屠殺死難者國家公祭日後的第一個紀念日。13日上午10時，南京將舉行國家公祭儀式，全城鳴笛向死難者致哀。

中新網據香港特區政府新聞公報，香港特區政府13日上午在香港海防博物館堡壘大堂舉行紀念儀式，悼念南京大屠殺死難者和日本侵華戰爭期間的死難者。香港行政長官梁振英出席儀式，並致獻花圈。

其他出席人士包括司法界代表、政府高級官員、立法會議員、行政會議成員、退伍軍人團體和其他社會人士。

據報導，為讓市民加深認識有關史實，香港海防博物館由今13日起至明(2015)年1月7日會舉辦南京大屠殺圖片展，並於13日免費開放予巿民參觀。上述展覽會同時由13日起至12月31日於荃灣大會堂、添馬政府總部、灣仔稅務大樓及沙田政府合署舉行，另於12月17日至31日期間在長沙灣政府合署展出。
