日本媒體報導，軟銀已選好黃道吉日，就是12月5日，將在福岡舉辦松坂大輔的入團記者會，球團會長王貞治會親自出席，並會秀出松坂大輔「18」號的新球衣。

34歲的松坂大輔本季效力大都會，出賽34場、9場先發，戰績3勝3敗、防禦率3.89，季後取得自由球員資格，日媒報導，軟銀開出3年總額超過12億日圓（包括激勵獎金）的合約，讓松坂大輔決定返日加入軟銀。

2006年經典賽（WBC）王貞治擔任日本隊監督，贏得冠軍，松坂大輔是當時日本隊的王牌投手。時隔9年，松坂大輔決定加入軟銀，王貞治將親自出席入團記者會，並鼓勵松坂大輔，至於軟銀新任監督工藤公康因有要事，當天不會出席。
