電影《寒蟬效應》集結徐若瑄、賈靜雯和郭采潔等大牌演員，電影在台灣第一周上映，票房就突破新台幣400萬；電影上映前，話題一直圍繞在戴立忍與郭采潔的禁忌師生戀，上映首週，更多人開始討論，徐若瑄與周幼婷這對曾經親密，卻又疏遠的「好朋友」。

周幼婷在電影中，飾演一路陪著郭采潔奮戰的大學輔導老師，也因為自己生命的缺口，她陷入情感和正義的兩難；有網友看完片後表示：「周幼婷在電影裡跟徐若瑄的律師角色，年輕時一定是戀人，因兩人關愛的眼神及掙扎，完全不像只是單純的多年好友。」導演王維明樂見其成這樣的看法，「最好的表演就是讓觀眾自己演，他們看到什麼就會得到什麼。」

周幼婷和徐若瑄初次合作，她表示：「其實我們都不知道兩人年輕時的模樣，但我覺得很奇妙，最後幾天對戲，我彷彿看見方律師（徐若瑄）小時候的樣子，我覺得我們好親密，但我們說話又這麼疏遠；那幾天，我常常不自覺掉眼淚。」
