世界盃分組預賽G組的美國對迦納6點登場，將是一場復仇之戰，上屆南非世界盃16強，美國就以1比2敗給迦納慘遭淘汰，今年狹路相逢，美國隊在教練克林斯曼(J.Klinsmann)帶領下，已經被改造為一支攻擊型的球隊，加上「若能」奪冠，每人將可重賞85萬歐元，是所有參賽球隊之最，只不過，國際賭盤還是看好迦納能獲勝。

開賽不到1分鐘，美國開球後，明星前鋒丹普西(Clint Dempsey)接獲隊友傳球後，個人從左路單刀殺入禁區，直接起腳攻破迦納球門，僅用了30秒就取得1比0領先。
