土耳其總理達伍托格魯3日誓言將協助庫德族戰士，全力阻擋遜尼派激進組織「伊斯蘭國」（IS）武裝分子，攻陷土國邊界附近的敘利亞北部戰略城鎮艾因阿拉伯（或稱科巴尼）。儘管如此，庫德族民兵3日告訴CNN，IS叛軍已進城，控制科巴尼的西南隅，雙方將展開激烈巷戰。

以庫德族為主的科巴尼鎮遭IS叛軍圍攻多日，在前線的法新社記者3日看到科巴尼鎮，遭不到兩公里外的IS陣地發射迫擊炮攻擊，冒出陣陣濃煙。

敘利亞庫德族官員納森請求國際援助：「我們在科巴尼孤軍奮戰約16天。我們需要國際社會協助。我們需要武器和彈藥。」

庫德族「人民防衛隊」成員明比克表示，庫德族戰士在城東摧毀一輛IS坦克，在城西，IS控制塔夏爾地區，包括一個非正式的邊界哨站。庫德族戰士已出動狙擊手阻止IS挺進。

如果科巴尼鎮失守，敘境內從拉卡市（IS號稱的首都）至土耳其邊界，南北長逾百公里土地都落入IS手中。

近幾周IS攻陷科巴尼附近數百村落，造成16萬居民逃亡，湧入土耳其。土耳其國會2日授權艾爾多安總統領導的政府，派兵進入敘國和伊拉克打擊IS。

土國總理達伍托格魯3日說：「我們不希望科巴尼失守，將盡全力阻止。」不過敘國政府警告，土國若出兵干預，就是「侵略」。

澳洲總理艾伯特3日也宣布，內閣已批准空軍戰鬥機對伊境IS發動空襲，他警告，空襲行動可能持續數月。
