2014年世界盃足球賽「死亡之組」D組中最具死亡氣息的一戰，將由「足球祖國」英格蘭對上「藍衫軍」義大利，由於前一戰同區勁旅烏拉圭大爆冷門輸給哥斯大黎加，這一戰很有可能是這組的分區龍頭之爭。

兩隊前次交手是2012年的歐洲國家盃，義大利在最後的12碼PK大戰中獲勝，但此役藍衫軍的超級門神布馮(Gianluigi Buffon)因傷無法出賽，替補門將西里古(Salvatore Sirigu)將受到嚴苛考驗。(謝岱穎／綜合報導)
