《路透社》周一 (9日) 報導，美國政府正式出售所有通用汽車 (General Motors Corp)(GM-US) 持股，為這次歷史性的破產重整紓困畫下句點，根據估計，美國人民為此損失高達 100 億美元。

財政部 2008-2009 年間對通用汽車展開紓困行動，財政部長 Jack Lew 現指出：「通用汽車最後股票脫手，我們國家的一個重要歷史篇章現已宣告落幕。」

2007-09 年間的金融危機，讓美國落入大蕭條以來最嚴重的經濟衰退，華府利用國會提振金融體系，並抑制華爾街恐慌情緒的 7000 億美元預算，對汽車產業提供金援。

盡管拯救房市和汽車產業的行動遭受損失，但納稅人們仍可從救援行動中獲得裨益。

通用汽車現已恢復獲利能力，且根據汽車研究中心報告顯示，政府金援拯救了 150 萬個美國工作職位，且避免個人和社會保險稅收 1053 億美元損失，相當淨投資額的 768％ 之多。

通用汽車總裁兼執行長 Dan Akerson  聲明指出：「我們將永遠感謝能夠獲得第二次機會，且將竭盡所能好好把握發展。」
