【施旖婕、劉邠如／綜合報導】男性的睪丸是人類的命根，但卻只被薄薄皮膚包藏，一被撞擊，就能讓男人「痛不欲生」。為什麼人類的睪丸不像大象的睪丸可以「內藏」深埋在體腔之內，心理學家白令(Jesse Bering)給了解釋。

白令表示，人類的睪丸外露，就如同孔雀一樣，一來是要增加雄性競爭，向雌性炫耀「自己有多強」。其二，精子最適合生成的溫度在攝氏34度，不過人體的溫度約在攝氏37度，放在體外，方便散熱。

至於為什麼睪丸這麼怕痛，捏到睪丸的痛感、要比捏到手痛上百倍？白令認為，這是一種特殊的「痛覺機制」，畢竟睪丸攸關生命延續，如果不讓痛覺敏感，有可能連「雞」壞死了都還不知道，因此出於為了降低絕子絕孫的機率，造物者只好讓睪丸的痛覺變得高一點。
