朱立倫這次只險勝對手2萬多票，得票數比上屆流失15多萬票；幕僚坦言，這次「冷處理」的競選策略，讓支持者的熱情給冷卻了。

朱立倫原被認為可大贏25萬票，甚至35萬票，「穩當選」；但或許就因這種勝券在握的心態，挾著現任執政優勢，不論對手猛批「樂透式公托政策」、「三環三線假動工」，甚至攻擊頂新三重新燕廠區土地變更案，朱立倫一律「冷處理」，不是由市府團隊出面說明，甚至只發新聞稿。而且不只朱立倫「輕敵」，向來國民黨視為勝選祕笈的地方組織動員也因「輕敵」而鬆懈，就連支持者也因「輕敵」而有「不差我這一票」的心態。
